This video help viewers acquire an awareness of the attitudes of people with disabilities toward themselves, attitudes of people with disabilities towards society, and barriers affecting the quality of life for people with disabilities. It helps to sensitize direct service providers to the needs and lifestyles of people with physical disabilities. The video is especially appropriate as a method for preparing staff to implement the Americans with Disabilities Act or to help newly injured individuals understand life with a disability.

Contents: The videos talk about the concept of “handicappism” followed by interviews with people with disabilities discussing their views on 15 topics: personal identity, attitudes, daily routines, independent living, architectural barriers, advocacy, legislation, technology, employment, recreation, body image, congenital vs. traumatic disability, friends, family, intimacy, fears, life and death, and, finally, what would make life better. These videos come with an instructor's manual that will help to facilitate follow-up discussion.

There are two versions of this video. The standard version (75 minutes) includes interviews with nine individuals on the 15 topics listed above. The extended version (160 minutes) includes more of the interview material and more people's views on each topic.

The extended version (160 minutes) can be found here.
